About
TLDR; (The Short Version)
My name is Rich Wardwell.
I am a husband and father of two wonderful children.
I am a follower of Jesus Christ.
I am a student Asbury Theological Seminary working towards my Masters of Divinity.
I strive daily to walk in the Narrow Path to Life through the Word of God, supporting literature, and fellowship with other believers. You also might find me playing with my kids or piddling on our hobby farm.
A Bit More...
I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior during my time at college over 25 years ago, and while I have never felt like I've ever abandoned the pursuit, I do feel that for many years my "walk" was mostly in place — think treadmill. It was the life of a fairly stagnant, shallow, immature believer. To summarize, after college, like many, I pursued the standard "American Dream" instead of God: good job, good salary, promotions, higher and higher titles, patents, apps, and even a book. In the end, while that sounds like success (and certainly was ego enhancing), none of these things mattered much or provided contentment. While I pursued the "dream", Jesus was put on the back shelf. The result was predictable: a shallow and unfulfilling life filled with anxiety, fear and doubt.
Sadly, the moment I took notice to the point of action was when I realized that if I didn’t change, my young children were going to grow up to be like me. It was time for a change. It was time to be wholly committed. As noted so clearly in Matthew 7:13-14, I needed to enter the narrow gate — and I needed to follow the narrow path that leads to life. I believe that narrow path is not a single decision or moment in time, but a daily effort.
I have known many who have followed a similar early path — those who may have known Jesus and yet have let themselves follow the well-traveled wide road of the world in pursuit of money and respect. My goal in creating this site was to journal my attempts to continuously recenter my focus on Jesus — on where it needs to be — and maybe help a few others along the way. It also provides an outlet for me to document the threads of belief and understanding that God is revealing through the Holy Spirit.
I’ve spent most of my life in technology — in my early years in information technology managing computers, networks, and databases, and later in software development from large backend server applications to mobile apps for iPhones and iPads. I also hope to explore a bit about technology and the Christian walk. I’m not exactly sure where this may lead, but I look forward to the revelation of the Holy Spirit!
Finally, I wanted the opportunity to encourage others to seek this wisdom and provide my reflection on these literary works as I read them and which gravitated to be my favorites. While study and immersion in both the Word of God and in prayer should be of the highest priority, there is much to be learned from the God given gift of wisdom and insight provided to many men and women over the years and the literary works they have created. C.S. Lewis, for example, has had an immense impact on my life and my relationship with the Lord. I know that God moves through his writings.
I hope a bit of visibility into my walk down the narrow path encourages others on their journey!
